Baahubali China collections
Okay, so let’s get straight to the point. “The pride of our nation”, the “Best Film of The year” of 2015, Baahubali – The Beginning, has been rejected by the audiences in China.
The film’s release in 2015 was phenomenal. It went on to become the highest grossing Indian films of all time making Telugu cinema stand high up on the cinema history of India.
But guess what, the Chinese territory where the film has raked in only about an approximate of $630,000 in three days.
Aamir Khan’s owe film PK had an. Impressive run collecting a phenomenal $19.4 million in China last year. But sadly, it’s unlikely that Baahubali will reach anywhere there because the film has failed to reach up to the hype that was created around it. In fact, it is learnt that there are no buyers for discounted tickets as well. We hear the film released only in 2% of the nation’s cinema halls and apparently the occupancy was nothing to write home about since the release last Saturday, July 23rd. Average attendance totaled just twelve moviegoers per screening over the weekend.
But are you disappointed by this response? Don’t be. Because it was more or less expected! For any average cine buff who’s had a glimpse at Chinese films over the years, it wouldn’t really be hard to notice how rooted they are to their culture, to their art forms. Is Baahubali any different from the n number of stories they have seen? Maybe you’d find a difference in narration, but the technique, very similar.
