Last year at the conclusion of BRICS sunmit in Russia, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested a brief film festival every year at the summit to build bridges and bring harmony amongst the BRICS countries by showcasing the cultures and arts of the five nations. His proposal has been accepted by the delegates of remaining countries and the first BRICS film festival will take place in India from this September 2nd to 6th, ahead of the BRICS summit which will be held in October.
Four Indian films have been selected to be screened for the member countries at the festival. Tollywood’s magnum opus period drama Baahubali: The beginning has been selected as one among the four films. The SS Rajamouli directional will be screened alongside Thithi( Kannada) , Cinemawalla ( Bengali) and Baji Rao Mastani( Hindi). A total of 20 films, 4 each from one country, will be screened at the film festival for the delegates.
The film festival will have Jackie Chan’s Skiptrace screened at the closing ceremony. At the end, the jury will decide the Best Film, Best Actors in male and female artists, and Best director from the list of movies screened at the festival.
