Former Karimanagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar took strong objection to Balakrishna casting his vote in GHMC elections. He demanded that the actor turned turned politician should be disqualified from Andhrs Pradesh Assembly as he was not a voter from the state.
According to Ponnam, as an MLA from Hindupur constituency of Andhra Pradesh, he is not supposed to exercise his franchise in another state. It show he has not vote in Andhra Pradesh this goes against the section 5(C) of Representation of people Act 1951. He said he lodged a complaint with Election commission.
“Nandamuri Balakrishna is an MLA from Andhra Pradesh. Still he cast his vote in a polling both from Jubilee Hills area. As per rule, he is not supposed to cast his vote in Telangana. After the division of the state, he has forfeited his voting right in Telangana, as he is the member of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. As per the representation or people’s Act, an MLA should have his name registered as voter from his own state. So, Balakrishna had violated the provisions of representation of people act. He should be disqualified from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly he said.
He said all these points had been brought to the notice of the Election Commission today.
