With complaints flooding in about the underestimation of BC population in the GHMC area, GHMC commissioner and district election officer B Janardhan Reddy has convened an all party meeting on November 27 to discuss the ongoing door to door survey of BC voter identification. Political parties and BC organizations have cried foul over the process and alleged that efforts were on to show BC population far less than what was being thought. BC leaders claim that the Backward castes constitute 52 per cent of total population of 80 lakh in GHMC purview. They alleged that there was an attempt by the TRS government to allocate less wards to BC and keep them away from political power in GHMC. So BC leaders are contesting the figure of 26 per cent of BC population, which was GHMC arrived at. According to Prof Simhadri of Osmania university, who is also the champion of BC cause, government was playing mischief with the BC population figures. ” Our rough estimation shows BCs constitute more than 50 per cent. If the Muslim BC are added , the total BC population would go up to 70 per cent. Corporation divisions should be allocated to the BCs as per the population. The figure (26 pc) arrived at by the GHMC is dubious. We want to contest ,” he told telugu360.com. Against this backdrop, GHMC has planned a meeting with representatives of all political on November 27 to discuss the enumeration of backward class voters in Greater Hyderabad. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation special officer and district election officer Janardhan Reddy has said. He held review meeting with zonal commissioners on the way the door-to-door enumeration of BCs was going on for identification of BC voters as per the guidelines issued by the state government.
He said, the enumeration was being done in a transparent way and zonal commissioners were also randomly checking the field work to ensure that all the voters were covered as per the polling station list. He said the wards would be reserved for BCs in proportion to their population.
If the BC population is just 26 per cent, their quota in GHMC divisions also would decrease.
The survey for identification of BC voters has been completed and a draft list of ward-wise voters, list marked with BC voters will be published on November 26 and the above list will be made available in the circle and ward offices of GHMC. Aggrieved voters and political parties can file claims and objections within a period of seven days from November 27 to December 3 in the prescribed forms.
All claims and objection will be disposed of after due verification and the final list of ward-wise electoral roll, marked ‘BC’, will be published on December 8.
