Overseas rights for Raviteja’s Bengal Tiger were bought for 1 Crore 30 Lakhs. In India Bengal Tiger has reached close to hit status, but in overseas more than 55% of the investment has been lost on this movie.
[dropcap]B[/dropcap]engal Tiger, starring Raviteja, Raashi Khanna and Tamannah Bhatia in lead roles, is directed by Sampath Nandi and released overseas on Dec 9th premier shows. As we had reported, this movie has some commercial mass elements and appealed to certain sections but lacks universal appeal. Since this movie was scheduled to release as next movie to Kick-2, distributors anticipated at that time, Kick-2 would become hit and will fetch benefit for Bengal Tiger. Hence they paid relatively higher price for Bengal Tiger. With Kick-2 movie itself biting dust, this calculated risk of paying 1 crore 30 lakh rupees for overseas distribution of Bengal Tiger did not pay off. [pullquote position = “left”] Despite moderate to encouraging web ratings, Bengal Tiger’s estimated loss is approximately 73 lakhs at overseas box-office.[/pullquote]
As this movie had reached closing of business, it has collected mere 45 lakh distributor share (Gross minus Theatre rentals/Fee/Hard Disk expenses) in USA. In addition to USA share, outside USA rights had fetched overseas distributor another 12 lakh rupees . If we account this amount too, a total of 57 lakh has been recovered on 1 crore 30 lakh investment.
