What has Nandamuri Harikrishna got to do with Bhuma Nagi Reddy’s much-touted exit from the YSR Congress?
What are the dots that are connecting the two?
Killing two birds with one stone is not a forgotten cliche, after all.
There are interesting reasons emerging out of the NTR Trust Bhavan, the headquarters office of the Telugu Desam Party.
There has been an unexposed bond that has fortified between the impudent son of NTR, Harikrishna, and president of the YSR Congress YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the last one year or more.
Jagan had called on Harikrishna when the latter’s son passed way in a road accident. This is not just a human gesture. But it was indeed a political investment. After all, Harikrishna may not be able to help build a huge political base for Jagan. But his value-add was first proven to the world by Chandrababu Naidu in 1995 by getting him onboard the core team that executed the ouster of NTR from the party and power.
That Harikrishna was thrown down in the dumps and he eventually established his own Anna TDP and later licked his own proverbial wound and joined hands with his brother in law are all history. He got what he was due – a Rajya Sabha term. That he gave it up in a fit of rage over the Telanagana separation is a different story.
The latest flick Nannaku Prematho starring Junior NTR, son of Harikrishna, doesn’t have an iota of the usual rhetoric of his “vamSam” (clan) and “maaviyyaa, thaathiyyaa, baabaayi” ( uncle meaning Naidu, grandpa meaning NTR and paternal uncle meaning Balakrishna).
Even the audio launch and other functions too remained confined To Harikrishna’s families and did not encapsulate the extended family of NTR.
Too much of water had flowed down the drain in the light of this that almost confirmed the snapped contacts between Naidu and Harikrishna. While Harikrishna had always nursed an ambition of seeing his son Jr NTR catapult to the position of his legendary father NTR, Chandrababu Naidu pitchforked his son Lokesh to the helm of affairs in the party by slowly and steadily weakening and diluting the personality of Jr NTR.
This is very much palpable too.
There have been charges that Hatikrishna was hobnobbing with Jagan for quite some time. At one point in time, Harikrishna came in front of TV cameras and said he wouldn’t do anything behind the scenes “like some people” (who they are is anybody’s guess) and that if he wanted to meet Jagan he would have done it openly. His condemnation of the campaign about his relationship with YSR Congress chief didn’t, however, assume significance.
Against this background, one interesting reason that’s emerging over the move to attract YSRC MLAs by Naidu is surely not to weaken Jagan or his party without a reason. But, the grapevine has it that Jagan seeks to field Nandamuri Harikrishna as his party nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat and Naidu doesn’t want it to go through at any cost. So, he is attacking at the roots.
For, that would have been much bigger jolt to the TDP than what has happened to it in Telangana.
The scooping out of Bhuma and a few others would weaken YSRC in the Assembly and preempt Hairkrishna’s crossing over and also election to the Upper House.
