Is Congress and TDP trying to put TRS and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in a fix by playing Revanth card in a foxy way? That’s million dollar question.
It’s almost a week since Kodangal MLA Revanth Reddy resigned from Telangana Telugu Desam party and all the positions he had held. Later, he joined Congress amid fanfare. But still he is officially continuing to be a TTDP member because the Telangana Legislature has not yet received Revanth’s resignation letter from party president Chandrababu Naidu to whom the former had submitter the letter. Without it, Assembly Speaker can’t take a decision.
The question being asked in political circles is, whether the AP Chief Minister has kept Revanth’s resignation letter deliberately or is there something else up his sleeve? Either way, none is losing anything and everyone is buying time for the right move at the right time.
The Telangana Assembly is in session and it is witnessing heated debates between the opposition and the ruling party over issues ranging from civic infrastructure to KCR’s obsession to shift the Assembly and Secretariat buildings from the present premises to a brand new complex to be built on defence land in Secunderabad.
So, it may be taken for granted that Revanth’s issue is not on top of everybody’s mind. But it can’t be pushed under carpet as Revanth, given his dogged persistence, will keep the issue burning until the Speaker takes a decision once he receives the resignation letter.
Whatever decision he takes impinges on 20 odd MLAs from Congress, YSR Congress and TDP, who defected to TRS allegedly at the behest of the ruling party. Speaker Madhusudhana Chary (TRS) has kept their fate hanging ever since they left their parties on whose tickets they got elected but joined the TRS.
Revanth’s resignation is bound to put the Speaker in a Catch 22 situation. If he keeps it pending, like other cases, Chary will face the opposition flak. If he takes a decision, he can’t restrict it to one individual legislator, claiming each case will be considered on its own merit. Either way, legal challenges abound. Moreover, while earlier defectors have switched over to the ruling party, in Revanth’s case it is Congress, not TRS.
Undoubtedly, Chandrababu will be waiting and watching the unfolding political drama in Hyderabad.
