The CBI Court in Nampally, Hyderabad, has delivered a big blow to AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy
The CBI dismissed the petition today (Friday) filed by Jagan seeking exemption from personal court appearance in illegal assets cases filed against him by the CBI.
Jagan sought exemption from personal court appearance on the ground that he became CM of AP now and the state government has to bear Rs 60 lakh towards his security and protocol visits, everytime he visits the court from Vijayawada to Hyderabad.Jagan told court that AP government’s financial condition is bad at present and it cannot afford to spend Rs 60 lakh every week on him for attending the court.
However, the CBI court dismissed Jagan’s plea and made it clear that he has to attend the CBI court and it cannot give exemption to Jagan just because he became CM.
The CBI strongly opposed Jagan’s petition seeking exemption saying that Jagan is a powerful person now as CM and he will manipulate and influence witnesses if he is given the exemption.
CBI said the crimes committed by Jagan are severe in nature and there is no change in the severity of the cases except Jagan becoming CM after he was arrested in 2012 in illegal assets cases in which Jagan is Accused No. 1 (A-1).
CBI said Jagan influenced witnesses even when he was just a Leader of Opposition, but now Jagan is more powerful as CM and he will tamper the evidences if given exemption,
Jagan spent 16 months in Chanchalguda jail and came out on bail in September 2013.
Jagan as CM will now have to attend CBI court every Friday in Nampally.
A CM attending court every Friday in a neighbouring state is something which is a huge embarrassment not only for Jagan but also YSRC party and AP government, which Jagan leads.
