The Modi-Shah duo thought that their party can easily gain a strong hold in Andhra Pradesh once Chandrababu Naidu is out of power. So, they extended all support for the resounding victory of Jaganmohan Reddy who has now become an even greater threat to BJP. in the past 50 days of Jagan regime, the BJP AP leaders couldn’t make big gains except joining 4 TDP MPs and some second rung leaders. The BJP now thinks that the landslide victory won by Jagan has come as a big hurdle for their plans. As he has got 151 MLAs as against just 23 of Opposition TDP, Jaganmohan Reddy has told Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram to accept the resignations of any MLA without weighing pros and cons.
Analysts say that Jagan’s strategy has paid rich dividends as it has spoilt BJP plans to win over some dissident MLAs from the ruling YCP. Breaking YCP morale is indeed necessary for the BJP if it really wants to make political gains in the state. The BJP is also worried about the religious polarisation of Dalit Christians who are voting cent per cent for Jagan. The Sangh Parivaar is alarmed at this increasing hold of pro-Christian and casteist Jagan Reddy government. Rumour is that the Parivaar has begun building pressure to counter Jagan. The day is not far off when the BJP may take the bull by the horns.
