BJP floor leader in Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Vishnukumar Raju brought to the notice of the house his predicament in Vizag city, which he said, had become haven for stray dogs. Raising the issue in Assembly today he said if an MLA had no protection from stray dogs, what would be the fate of ordinary people.
” There are more than a lakh stray dogs in the port city. About two thousand people have fallen victims to the dog menace,” he said. ” I am not worried of the thieves in the city. They can be tackled. But, these stray dogs, which are merciless, are creating scare among the people of the city,” the MLA lamented.
The dogs, which roam around the city with impunity, the MLA from Visakhapatnam said, they had the temerity to sneak into the high security International Fleet Review venue also. ” It is high time that measures are taken to protect the inhabitants of Vizag from the dog bites,” the MLA urged the House.
The MLA also brought his helplessness and the problems he faced with dogs , despite his status as an MLS, to the notice of the House.
This prompted municipal and urban development minister P Narayana to respond sympathetically. He admitted the fact that Vizag did have the menace of dogs. ” There are 3.47 lakh dogs in the state. But, the their number is alarmingly bigger in Vizag with 1.39 lakh,” he said and added that as per the Supreme Court direction, stray dogs could not be killed. The Municipal authorities were taking steps to control the dog population by sterilizing them.
At this time YSRC member SV Mohan Reddy referred to the pig menace in the his constituency, Kurnool. The said even though authorities were permitted to shoot them, nothing had happened.
He said recently, three infants had died when pigs attacked them. Minister Promised suitable action in both the cases.
