Brahmani at National women praliament
The beautiful business women and member of the first political family in Andhra Pradesh Nara Brahmani has emerged into limelight at the on-going National Women’s Parliament (NWP). Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s daughter-in-law stressing on importance of education of women and women empowerment, she invokes her family’s contribution in this regard.
She recalled that how her grandfather N T Rama Rao and father-in-law Chandrababu Naidu turns champions in this area, besides referring to her father’s 100th film `Gautamiputra Satakarni’, which stands as symbol of women empowerment in the ancient history of Andhras.
In this regard, citing Amaravati’s famous emperor Satakarni, she said “Satakarni venerated womanhood so much so that instead of the traditional practice of taking father’s name, he took mother’s name. Gautamiputra Satakarni or son of mother Gautami.”
However, Brahmani, who is executive director of Heritage Foods, the company owned by the family, deplored over meagre representation of women in Indian corporate sector. She said that a recent study shows only five per cent women in India make to top leadership positions in corporate sector against global average of 20 per cent.
Stating that she believed that self-help is the key to women empowerment, she urged women to take matters in their hands rather than waiting around endlessly for others to help them.
While expressing her admiration over women political leaders of the country, she said India elected women heads of government and states much before many developed countries. But, she deplores equal pay for equal work is not given despite stringent laws.
