As per the reports coming from national media, Bahujan samajwadi party and samajwadi party alliance comes to an end as the supremo of BSP party not willing anymore to continue the Gathbandhan. Even though official statement from these two parties is yet to come out, it is now more or less clear that, Mayawati’s BSP is going to fight alone in the upcoming by polls.
It is known news that, in 2019 Lok Sabha elections the grand alliance of BSP and SP did not yield any good results. Out of the total 80 MP seats, BSP got 10 seats and SP got 5 seats. BJP got 62 seats. Even though BJP seats reduced from 71 to 62 compared to 2014, BSP-SP grand alliance considered a “grand” failure as the number of seats won by this group is much less than the expected number of seats. As per the reports, Mayawati was heavily disappointed with the results and is said to have told that Yadav vote bank of samajwadi party did not transfer to BSP whereas SC vote bank of BSP was transferred to samajwadi party. so Mayawati seems to have decided to contest alone in upcoming by polls for 11 constituencies.
This kind of alliances that are formed just before elections and broken immediately after the results are giving impression to people that there is no ideological base nor any long term vision behind the ghat Bandhan and it is purely opportunistic alliance. We will have to wait and see if these parties atleast stick to this decision or will come again together in future before any other elections.
