Call Money commotion forced Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao to adjourn the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for ten minutes at 9.25 his morning on the second day today.
The House witnessed chaos when opposition YSRC led by leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy demanded immediate debate on Call Money and the treasury benches opposing it. Speaker Kodela suggested the debate could be taken up later as the chief minister was going to make a statement on the Call Money racket.
This led to a dispute in the house as to what should be taken first- statement by chief minister or debate on the call money. While Opposition said CM’s statement should come after the debate as the issue was too serious warranting immediate debate. Jagan also alleged chief minister himself was involved in the case. “His son and many MLAs and MLCs also have role in the call money affair. Allowing the CM to make statement first and asking us to take up debate later is unprecedented. Normally, Government makes statements only after a debate,” Jagan said while his army of MLAs raised slogans against government and demanded debate.
Legislative affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishudu dismissed Jagan’s demand as having come from his naiveté. ” He has no experience and knowledge of rules. Government has the right to make statements anytime it wants,” Ramakrishnudu said.
With Jagan insisting on ‘debate first’ and another minister Achanniadu (sports) suggesting ‘CM’s statement first’ the House witnessed a deadlock. Speaker could not convince angry Jagan that a debate could be taken up later. Jagan said ‘no’ to any debate , including the one on Dr Ambedkar before Call Money debate. Ridiculing government for suddenly discovering Ambedkar 125th birth anniversary, Jagan said the opposition party was ready to pay homage to Dr Ambedkar as a separate item, even for a whole day. He said he was for extension of the session few more days in order to recall the contributions of Dr Ambedkar and to debate other important issues.
Then Speaker adjourned the House for ten minutes amid chaos in the House.
