NTR biopic is temporarily on hold after the director Teja walked away from the project. However the hunt for the directory is on and there’s also rumours that balayya himself may wield megaphone. At the same time, now there are discussions that whether NTR biopic can reach the standards raised for such period films in Telugu and benchmark set by latest films like Mahanati and Rangasthalam.
These films Mahanati and Rangasthalam set in the backdrop of 1970s and 1980s and both the movies captured the essence of that time period in a very authentic manner. Even the minute details have been done with lot of attention. With both these films becoming huge success, benchmark for such films in Tollywood has been raised and the subsequent films may have to live up to these new standards. Moreover Nag Ashwin handled the movie in the most non controversial manner and yet highlighted the drama. Obviously this all will put even more pressure on NTR biopic.
For example, before Lagaan movie, most of the Indian movies used to have Indian actors play Britishers roles as well. These Indian actors use to have eye lens etc to make them appear like Britishers. But after the even regional movies in India have made sure such roles played by Britishers. Because once audience have seen authentic set up and authentic actors, they will expect similar authentic handling in subsequent movies.
The same logic applies to NTR biopic as well. We will have to wait and see how NTR biopic will overcome all such hurdles.
