Powerstar Pawan Kalyan is due for a big hit. His last film Sardar, which released in Summer 2016, made no show at the box office and disappointed his fans. He is now looking to make amends with Katamarayudu which is all set for a strong opening this Friday.
Katamarayudu is the first big ticket film of this Summer and the massive release is going to put an end to the dullness at the box office which has been prevailing since the last three weeks as none of the small and medium budget films managed to make moolah. Now, all eyes are on Katamarayudu. The film has made a staggering pre release business and Pawan Kalyan become the first actor to have back to back films with 100 Crores pre release business.
The question that has been making rounds in trade circles is whether Katamarayudu can make it to the top 3 highest grossing films in Tollywood. Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 which released amidst stiff competition smashed many trade records and emerged as the second highest grossing film in history and placed behind Baahubali. The film has collected close to 105 Crores share in its full run. It is followed by Srimanthudu and Janatha Garage.
Pawan Kalyan’s Attarinitiki Daredhi remained as the biggest hit in the Tollywood history untill films like Baahubali, Srimanthudu and Janatha Garage surpassed it. Now, Pawan Kalyan has a good chance of making it to the top 3 as Katamarayudu is coming with high expectations and has no competition from other biggies. The hiked ticket prices will surely benefit the cause to some extent. Also, the massive release in other territories like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and the huge buzz in overseas circles is going to be a huge advantage for the film to make the most during the Summer holidays.
So, we have and wait and see if Katamarayudu can rake in solid revenues and emerge as the one of the top 3 highest grossing films in Telugu.
