The AP Congress is looking for its former leaders. The party which had lost its ground in the State after bifurcation is now looking back at its former leaders. The party had lost several leaders after the bifurcation. While some have gone to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam Party, there are several others are still inactive or not in any party. The Congress leaders are now looking at these leaders.
Congress incharge of the State, Oommen Chandy, had prepared a list of such leaders and is meeting one after the other. The first in the list is former chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy, whom Chandy and other senior leaders met in Hyderabad and invited him to join the Congress. It is said that Kiran had agreed to come back but is waiting for the day. AICC president Rahul Gandhi had agreed to give a key post for Kirankumar Reddy at the national level.
There are names like former MPs Sabbam Hari, Undavalli Arun Kumar and G V Harsha Kumar, all from Andhra Pradesh who left the Congress after bifurcation. The Congress leadership in the State is looking at these leaders to come back and help the party. While the Congress is also trying to get back its leaders now with the BJP and TDP, priority is being given to the leaders who are not in any party.
The party had lost its base from village to the State level. In the last elections, the Congress secured 2 per cent votes and it is likely to increase in the next election. The party believes that it can improve its vote base if these leaders return to the party. But, the big question is whether the leaders are in a position to help the Congress party’s revival?
