The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, has decided to transfer Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma. This decision comes in the wake of a concerning incident at the judge’s residence.
On the 14th of this month, a fire broke out at Justice Varma’s bungalow. As the judge was away, his family members alerted the police and fire department. When firefighters entered the premises to douse the flames, they discovered bundles of currency notes in one of the rooms.
Following this discovery, senior officials took possession of the money. Upon investigation, it was found that Justice Varma had not declared this cash in his financial records, raising serious concerns about financial transparency.
After learning about the incident through senior officials, Chief Justice Khanna immediately convened a Collegium meeting. The Collegium decided to transfer Justice Varma to the Allahabad High Court, where he had previously served before coming to Delhi in 2021.
This transfer marks Justice Varma’s return to his former posting at the Allahabad High Court, where he had worked prior to his Delhi assignment four years ago.
