In a move to strengthen administrative boundaries, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly directed the Chief Secretary to control government officials who make political statements outside their jurisdiction. This directive comes in the wake of several incidents where overeager comments by officials caused embarrassment to the state government.
According to reliable sources, Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that officials should limit their media interactions to administrative matters, leaving political issues to be addressed by elected leaders. The Chief Minister has emphasized the importance of accurate reporting from the field, warning against the practice of hide ground realities to please superiors.
The decision was reportedly triggered by recent events, including an incident in Visakhapatnam related to sand pricing, where high-ranking officials allegedly attempted to downplay issues that local leaders had brought to light. Another incident involved a Superintendent of Police in Anantapur making statements about the lack of political involvement in the burning of Lord Rama’s chariot by YSRCP leaders.
Minister Nara Lokesh is said to have brought these concerns to the Chief Minister’s attention just before a cabinet meeting. With support from fellow ministers, Naidu issued clear instructions to the Chief Secretary to address the issue.
During a recent media interaction, Chandrababu Naidu stressed the importance of transparent governance, particularly in sensitive areas like liquor tenders. He stated, “Political governance isn’t about inconveniencing people. It’s about working for their benefit.” The Chief Minister also acknowledged recent challenges in sand mining due to rains and floods, which have impacted the construction industry.
This latest directive from CBN aims to streamline communication channels within the government and ensure that officials stick to their administrative roles only.
