Celebrations broke out in the ranks of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) across Andhra Pradesh on Thursday as counting trends showed the party heading for a landslide victory to wrest power from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
YSRCP leaders and workers in large numbers gathered outside the residence of party chief Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Tadepally in state capital Amaravati. They were bursting crackers and distributing sweets. Some workers were dancing in gay abandon to hail the party’s victory.
YSRCP was leading in 150 seats in the 175-member Assembly and was ahead in all 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had moved from Hyderabad to Amaravati on Wednesday, celebrated the victory with senior leaders. He embraced Rajya Sabha member Vijay Sai Reddy to congratulate him.
There were big celebrations in YSRCP offices in all 13 districts of the state, including in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s native Kadapa district.
