The central government has approved funds for the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) of Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects. This decision comes after the previous mobility plans for both metro projects expired, having crossed the five-year timeline.
The Central Urban Transport Department requested fresh plans be developed for these projects. Following the centre’s guidelines, AP Metro Rail Corporation selected a consultancy firm through a tender process to design the new comprehensive mobility plans.
SystemA has been chosen as the consultancy firm for creating integrated mobility plans for both cities. The firm will develop the plan for Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 84,47,000 and for Vijayawada at Rs 81,68,000.
The Central Urban Transport Department has now sanctioned these funds to the AP Metro Rail Corporation to proceed with the planning work for both metro projects.
