Giving some ammunition for the opposition party, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has resorted to describe YSR Congress Party MLAs as `monkeys’.
Referring to `unruly’ behaviour of the opposition legislators in the Assembly, he said “It pained me to see MLAs jumping and swinging like monkeys in the Assembly”. Later, he explained that is the reason why in the new Assembly hall, it was ensured that there would be no mikes for them to break. There will only be microphones.
He made these comments while admitting senior Congress leader and MLC B Changal Rayudu into the Telugu Desam Party, last evening. He also didn’t hide his uneasiness to refer the name of film star-turned `fire brand’ legislator R K Roja.
After suspending her for one year from the AP Assembly, he is not leaving any occasion to openly denounce her. Very recently, she was forcefully kept away from the National Women’s Parliament, by arresting her at the Airport itself.
In an oblique reference to Roja, he said that “there is one woman who talks in a language that you do not want hear”. He further added that “even if you thrust pads of cotton into your ears, you will keep hearing her obscene language. The way these MLAs are conducing themselves in the Assembly is disgusting.”
Meanwhile, barely three months ahead of his retirement as MLC, Changal Rayudu joined the ruling party, as he saw “no future” in the Congress anymore. He was admitted by the Chief Minister into his party as part of a strategy to consolidate its base among a caste in Kadapa district.
Incidentally, the Congress Party last week suspended Changal Rayudu from the party for indulging in anti-party activities. Rayudu was elected to the Council under the MLAs’ quota in 2011 and was due to retire in May.
