At a time when he was complaining about `non-cooperative’ attitude of the bankers, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was requested by union finance minister Arun Jaitley to head a five-member chief minister’s panel to be constituted by the center to look into issues pertaining to abolition of higher value notes.
It seems when Naidu accused that banks failing in meeting the situation following demonetization, Jaitley rendered the task to show some practical solutions on him only. According to Naidu’s office, this afternoon he received a phone call from Jaitley requesting him to head the chief minister’s panel. The members of the panel are yet to be finalised.
The panel would examine the problems being faced by the public and make suggestions for resolving them. So far, there is no clarity on the time decided for the panel to make the suggestions.
It may be recalled that Jaitley had appreciated last week in Lok Sabha that Andhra Pradesh was in the forefront in promoting the cashless transactions. He added the State government was quickly responding to the issues in a bid to minimise the inconvenience to people.
Interestingly, it was Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who proposed for a panel of chief ministers, urging the Centre to take the chief ministers of different states into confidence in solving the problem and ensure better coordination.
Meanwhile, while conducting a review meeting with bankers and senior officials of the state government this afternoon, Naidu deplored that even after three weeks bankers are failing to resolve the problems arising due to large scale queues at banks and ATMs. He also accused that RBI is failing in coordinating with banks.
Stating that bankers failing to come with latest date for his daily review meetings, he wondered why they are unable to get actual data from their central server, even after 20 days of demonetization. He expressed disappointment that only Rs 6,000 crore new notes were dispatched to the state as against about Rs 80,000 crore deposits collected from here.
