After completing half of his term, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu now seems to be keen in naming the domestic terminal after NTR at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad. During his brief visit to Hyderabad yesterday, he had enquired with TDP leaders why the move is getting delay.
He also discussed with Union Minister Y Sujana Choudary suggesting him to makes a move speedy in this regard. Earlier, during United Front government, the Begumpet Airport was named after NTR. However, later during Congress regime when the airport was shifted to Shamshabad, elevating it as an international airport, it was named after Rajiv Gandhi.
At that time TDP leaders resorted to protests against this move and also staged agitation. As a compromise formula, the centre proposed to name domestic terminal after NTR. Even that proposal was also not materialised since last eight years.
After returning to power, Chandrababu Naidu raised this issue and sought union civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who also hails from TDP, to speed up the process. However, Narendra Modi government also seems to be not showing much interest, as that may not be receiving well by the TRS government in Telangana.
Though Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is an admirer of NTR and he had chosen to name his son also after NTR, political compulsions may makes him to avoid such move. Unless, Telangana government makes a formal proposal, in the present political environment, the centre is unlikely to makes a move in this direction.
Realising the difficulties in this move, union minister Sujana Choudary coolly told Chandrababu that procedural obstructions bound to makes delay at the centre.
