Had been Chief Minister of one of the largest state in the country for over a decade and having played key role in the national politics being convener of United Front, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu nowadays seems to be not in comfortable position as head of a `small’ state after bifurcation.
Though he is now too part of the ruling NDA at the center, his support hardly matters to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Anywhere in the state he can reach in a hour by air and may return back within few hours. This seems to be makes him to reveal his `identity’ wherever he goes so that to convey that he is a `powerful’ politician in the country.
In Janmabhoomi programmes, he is not allowing any one to conduct proceedings. He himself starting programmes, asking few people from the audience to speak and concluding. Even local ministers, legislators and district officials were remaining as silent spectators. At Polavaram spill over works launching, he himself conducted felicitations to those are working for the project.
At India Today Conclave in Chennai, yesterday when he was asked would he play some role in national politics, he repeated his old rhythm that he had rejected `Prime Minister Offer’ twice earlier. But no TDP leader, who had closely associated with him during that period is in agreement with him on this claim. Even leaders like Deve Gowda had never makes such comments.
Very recently, at Polavaram he was seen stating that he had threatened not to take oath as Chief Minister if seven submerging mandals are merged with AP. But, BJP insiders says that already the ordinance for merger of those mandals was prepared during Dr Manmohan Singh regime, but unable to move ahead due to announcement of election schedule.
During his public meetings, he is appealing people several times requesting them to remembers him daily. “If you switch on your light remember me, as I brought power”. A former TDP minister deplore that Chandrababu makes himself cheap in the eyes of the people.
