Former Indian Cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin’s statement evincing interest to contest from Secunderabad constituency created chaos and confusion at Congress in Hyderabad today. The Congress leaders split into two groups supporting and opposing Azharuddin.
Former Indian Cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin won the Lok Sabha election from Moradabad (UP) in 2009 but lost in 2014 from a constituency in Rajasthan. He is planning to comeback to electoral politics and contest from Secunderabad this time on Congress ticket. However, Anjan Kumar Yadav, who is a two-time MP from Secunderabad also seeking the ticket from same constituency. Currently it is BJP MP Dattatreya’s seat but it seems he may not contest in 2019 because of various reasons.
As soon as Azhar expressed his interest to contest from Secunderabad, Anjan Yadav came down heavily and told, “The Secunderabad Lok Sabha Ticket is mine. Some leaders are misleading Azharuddin.” As the meeting was still continuing, Anjan’s followers started slogans and shouting. Senior leader Sarve Satya Narayana supported Anjan while V. Hanumantharavu, who is supporting Azhar had to leave the meeting. T-PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy could not control either the leaders or the situation.
