After Pranahita-chevella, it is cheap liquor, chief minister KCR’s favorite prescription for manual-labor stress, is becoming rallying point for the political parties and voluntary organizations across Telangana.
All opposition political parties such as Congress, TDP, BJP, the Left, YSRCP, Aap, representatives of woman’s organizations and intellectuals gave a call to launch a movement against the proposed introduction of cheap liquor in very village of Telangana by TRS government.
Their coming together resulted in the formation of a non-political and non-profit organization called Telangana Anti-cheap Liquor Movement.
The round-table which was inconclusive yesterday is expected to continue today also. After the meeting the organizers are planning to announce a program of action.
According to Dr Sravana Dasoju, a spokesperson of the organization, there was a suggestion to launch the movement from Gajwel, chief minister KCR constituency in Medak district. ” For the time being, we have decided to launch sensitization program from mandal level. In every Mandal youth tom-tom against the cheap liquor. In the process, we want to rope in students, doctors, lawyers in to the movement as their support is necessary to make the movement success,” he said.
Sravan expressed dismay that none of the leaders of so called political TJAC had raised their voice against the cheap liquor policy which is going to spell socio-economic disaster among poor and down trodden of Telangana state.
Sravan said a twitter and facebook accounts had been opened to seek support for the movement from the right thinking people living away from Telangana and people from other states.
Former professor of Osmania university Visweswara Rao said this round-table was only a beginning of the movement being planned from every nook and corner of Telangana. BJP floor leader in Assembly Dr Lakshman said his party would oppose the cheap liquor policy in Assembly.
Telangana Struggle Forum leader Cheruku Sudhakar said the cheap liquor would be more harmful to the lower strata of society such as dalits, aadivasi, BC etc. TDP woman’s wing presiden Shobharani said KCR was trying to thrust his personal weakness on the state of Telangana. Congress former MP Ponnam prabhakar said their movement had enlisted the support of left intellectuals such as Gaddar, Prof Kancha Ilaiah and Prof Haragopal etc.
