Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday dispatched a high-level delegation to Kirlampudi, where Kapu reservation movement leader Mudragada Padmabham has been on indefinite fast along with his wife. The team consisted of minister K Actchannaidu, MLAs Kala Venkatarao, Kala Venkatarao (Andhra Pradesh Telugu Desam President), Thota Trimurthulu and MLC Boddu Bhaskarao. The team is expected to arrive anytime in Kirlampudi to deliver the message from chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. While reiterating the TDP government’s commitment to accord BC status to Kapus, the team is expected to convey the difficulty in cutting the tenure of Justice Manjunadha commission aka Kapu Commission from nine months to three months. Because, the nine months is minimum period required for the commission to complete its work. Cutting short of the term would pose legal problems in future and it opens the room for challenging the recommendations of the commission on the pretext that the commission had not followed due process.
The team’s visit is the direct follow out of the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement. While talking to the cabinet subcommittee, some Kapu ministers and senior leaders, Naidu agreed for demands raised by Mudragada: 1. Just seven months are left for the commission to complete its work. So, it is difficult to reduce the time further. 2. Rs 1000 crore will be allocated for Kapu commission in the budget the state going present in next month in Assembly. 3. According BC status to Kapus is being perused actively by the cabinet subcommittee.
Atchannaidu’s team is expected to brief Padmanabham CM’s decisions and prevail upon him to call off the fast as the process has already been initiated.
Meanwhile, on Monday the fast entered day four. Mudragada in continuing his fast by locking himself in the house. As the rumor went on that the plainclothes policemen had surrounded the house to pounce on him to foil the fast , he shifted his seat inside and bolted from inside. Today, noted movie director and Kapu leader Dasari Narayanarao is arriving in Kirlampudi to express solidarity to Mudragada.
