He is the Megastar. He ruled the roost for over three decades. He was the undisputable number one. Rightly so, considering his charisma could be matched by none or bettered by none!
No wonder then that his fan base is known to be so huge. One of the biggest superstars of Telugu cinema, Chiranjeevi’s craze needs no introduction, though. However, his much hyped entry into politics led to a downfall. The actor who was always at the top of his league suddenly battered and fell at the bottom.
He’d said that he’d never come back to cinema. But he had failed. Would he change his mind now? Well, he certainly did. For years now, there has been talk of the actor making a comeback. ‘Next year’ would be the answer whenever asked.
Even till 2015 it was the same till things changed when he made a cameo appearance in son Ram Charan’s Bruce Lee. The film failed miserably but one thing became certain – that whatever we might say, think or do, he was still the megastar. In a film which was pathetic, he was the only saving grace.
Well, but little did you know that the appearance was a strategy, a test to see where he stood now. And he did get the answer he wanted!
And soon enough, the comeback was announced. Months of speculation came to an end when Ram Charan announced that his father would be back with the remake of Tamil film Kaththi.
That done, the search for the female lead began. It was no easy task, though. Several names were considered and several ladies approached. Well, it was a tough task because the aim was to ensure that a very popular name is considered because she would be one driving factor for the movie and help bring mileage. And then, one of the top names in the industry, Kajal Aggarwal was roped in for a record remuneration.
But still, the film needed a lot more. As much as his stardom needs no introduction, a break of around eight years has led to a gap from the audiences and he needs to connect again.
That’s thought out as well. While his close friend and business partner Nagarjuna got a great deal of connect with the everyday TV viewers thanks to Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu which he has been hosting for over two years now, it seems Chiranjeevi spoke to him about hosting the next season.
The megastar is looking at the TV show as a way to reconnect and get back the much needed foothold before the beginning of the film. Interestingly, the show premieres in December just a month before the release of Khaidi no. 150. Will it work as well as it did for Nag? Only time will tell?
