Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy visited the multi-crore Polavaram project for the first time after he became CM. He was accompanied by his Ministers and MLAs from West Godavari district. His visit assumed significance amid allegations by the ruling YCP that the previous TDP government used the project as an ATM for illegal funds.
Engineer in Chief Venkateswara Rao explained about the progress of works. Jagan asked whether the coming floods wouldn’t cause damage to the coffer dam and other works. He also asked why there was abnormal delay in the execution of the project works.
Polavaram is one among the Navaratnalu promises made by the YCP in its election manifesto. Jagan has made conflicting remarks in the past. First he said that the Centre would have to complete the project but later clarified that the AP government would continue the works.
