The 126-year-old Congress party is on the crossroad in the undivided Karimnagar district with more aspirants and threats of the possibilities of rebel candidates in upcoming Assembly elections. The ongoing consequences in the party are leading to benefit the ruling party TRS.
The party has good cadre in Karimnagar Assembly segment and the leaders from here had thrived in national politics. But, the young generation leaders from the party are very aggressive and are maintaining separate groups which are leading to headache to the party state leadership. Mr. Chalmeda Laxmi Narsimha Rao, who contested twice from the party from Karimnagar, is said to be joined in TRS soon and he is maintaining distance from the party since few months. If it happens, the TRS will be benefited with the strong cadre of Mr. Chalmeda. In order to overcome the crisis, the Congress High Command is planning to announce former MP Mr. Ponnam Prabhakar or Kotha Jaipal Reddy from this segment.
In Choppadandi segment, the number of aspirants from Congress is more which is leading to possibilities of either rebels or migrations. Former minister Mr. Suddala Devaiah, Banda Shankar, Medipally Satyam, Gajjala Kantam are seeking tickets from the party and as the high command didn’t announce any candidate, they began campaign claiming they would be the candidates. Meanwhile, sources said that Mr. Suddala Devaiah would join.
In Vemulawada, the similar situation is being continued in the party as Mr. Enugu Manohar Reddy and Mr. Adi Srinivas are seeking tickets. While Mr. Reddy is claiming he has been serving the party since years, Mr. Srinivas showing his past experience in contesting in elections.
Leaders of Congress from Korutla segment have already announced that they would contest as rebels in case they will not get party’s ticket and began campaigns in favour to them.
Except in Jagityal (Mr. Jeevan Reddy) and Manthani (Mr. D. Sridhar Babu), the cadre of Congress party in other assembly segments has split into two or more groups.
