Two days after Congress MLC B Chengal Rayudu joining ruling-Telugu Desam Party, another senior Congress leader and MLC Mohammad Jani today joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister and TDP’s supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, in Vijayawada. Naidu welcomed him into the party with a yellow scarf.
Two-time MLA and two-time MLC, Jani was a Congress minister during 1985 to 1989 and also deputy speaker in Legislative Council during YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime, hails from Guntur. His MLC term comes to an end by May, this year.
Expressing satisfaction over the joining of several minority leaders into TDP, Chandrababu Naidu said that his government is committed for the betterment of minorities. It may be recalled that last year two Muslim MLAs from YSR Congress party also joined TDP. They are Chand Bhasha from Kadiri, Anantapur district and Jaleel Khan, Vijayawada West.
Presently there is no minority representation in Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet and these two MLAs had reportedly joined TDP by expecting one of them may be inducted into the cabinet.
