Congress has won 77 seats in the 117 seat Punjab getting a clear majority to form the government in Punjab. Captain Amarinder Singh won Patiala but lost to outgoing chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in Lambi. Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has defeated Congress’s Captain Amarinder Singh by 22,770 votes for the Lambi seat.
Amarinder Singh who is celebrating his 75th birthday today, expressed gratitude to people of the state for their overwhelming support. The captain comparing Arvind Kejriwal to a summer storm said he has come and gone. However he is hopeful of the Union Government to recognize demands of Punjab and support them accordingly.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stood second with 20seats and Alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and BJP stood third with 18 seats and others won 2 sets.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Congratulated the Congress leader Amarinder Singh on the electoral victory in the state. Though Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Punjab the due credit goes to the star campaigner Amarinder Singh.
Two sportsperson who joined Congress weeks before the elections, former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu and former Indian hockey skipper Pargat Singh have won with a good margin.
After the defeat in Punjab and Goa, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted “We accept people’s mandate. All volunteers worked hard. Our struggle will continue.”
SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal and the oldest chief minister said he will resign tomorrow and also congratulated Amarinder Singh for Congress’s victory.
