After the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Chairman Prof M Kodandaram revealed his political ambitions stating that JAC would launch a political party if such a need arises, both the Congress and TDP are said to be locked in dilemma on the issue of extending support to its agitations.
Earlier, both Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Telangana TDP Working President A Revanth Reddy have announced their support to TJAC’s proposed `Nirudyogula Nirasana Pradarsana’ (Unemployed Protest Rally), on February 22. They have also indicated their party cadre would participate in a large number.
However, after Kodandaram came out with his ambition to start a political party, both these leaders are now facing severe resistant from their own party leaders on the issue of associating with TJAC.
It may be recalled that addressing ‘Meet the Press’ programme in Hyderabad two days ago, Kodandaram said that there was a need for a political party which is based on political and social morals. He also said that the JAC has been working hard to create political alternates. Therefore, he said that the JAC would not hesitate to launch a new political party, if required.
His comments made it clear that present opposition parties in the state are not in a position to emerge as alternate to ruling TRS and he is making sincere efforts to emerge himself as an alternate.
According to Congress and TDP circles, as opposition parties they like to associate any effort to spread anti-government sentiments. So, they said they are intend to support TJAC only to gain `political mileage’. But when TJAC itself is making efforts to `occupy’ opposition space, by pushing them to a corner, a senior Congress leader said it would be suicidal for them to encourage Kodandaram.
Moreover, he said that TJAC has no gross root mechanism and also big support base. By making Congress and TDP to tune towards its own plan, he alleges that Kodandaram is attempting to expand his own base.
