Punjab and Haryana High Court reprimanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the violence following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Court responded strongly to Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain representing Central government’s comment that the Friday’s violence was a matter of state. Court asked “Is Haryana not a part of India? Why are Punjab and Haryana treated like step children?”
Court did not spare the state government either and used strong words against the BJP Chief Minister. The court said, Haryana government “surrendered” to the situation and let it “escalate”. It allowed a city like Panchkula “burn for their political motives”. The judges asked “You are trying to crucify a small DCP of Panchkula what about those political masters who have been giving wrong directions?”
The Chief Minister of Haryana initially accepting lapses later tried to shield the followers of Ram Rahim Singh by saying that criminals joined the crowd of Dera Sacha Sauda devotees
The court said that these statements of the Chief Minister is “giving the impression that they didn’t do anything, you’re still supporting them, you are the ones who made this happen.”
Haryana government has been censured for allowing more than one lakh followers of the convict to gather at Panchkula for the verdict.
