Communist party of India (CPI) sees no major political changes in the near future at centre, even though BJP’s weakness has got exposed after Bihar and people are slowly distancing themselves from it.
According to party’s national general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, the BJP would push its economic policies with more vigor now after its drubbing at polls in Bihar. This is because, given the growing opposition, it would want to implement its agenda as early as possible to benefit it benefactors.
However, at the State level in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP-TDP alliance would face a drubbing if elections were to be held at this moment, the CPI leaders said in Vijayawada.”The Bihar defeat is not likely to bring about any major shift in national politics immediately but dissenting voices within the BJP would grow stronger,” he opined.
“A section of saffron party had strongly felt that Modi should face a defeat in Bihar elections. They felt that the defeat would help Prime Minister Modi learn a lesson or two. But RSS, the force behind Modi, and Modi’s BJP are not in a mood to draw any lessons from Bihar setback. The BJP is determined to pursue its economic policies. The result is the rise of bar of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 15 key sectors. BJP is not deterred by the Bihar debacle. Had the party won in Bihar, it would have shouted from roof tops that it had got the people’s mandate for its policies,” the CPI veteran said.
Commenting on the political developments in Andhra Pradesh, the CPI national general secretary said things had worsened for chief minister Naidu. “If elections were to be held at this moment, the BJP-TDP combine would bite the dust. The alliance has not been able to meet the expectations of people, particularly the middle class. We can see this in the movements of the people against the broken promises of the government,” he said.
Interestingly, the communist leader made light of Janasena president Pawan Kalyan and his politics. He dismissed the assertion that Pawan would be game changer in state politics. He is not even ready to take as the representative of his caste. “ A single individual, be it Pawan Kalyan or someone else, cannot be a sole representative of a caste or a community or a State. Moreover, he has no such caliber. Look at what happened to Chiranjeevi, his brother. Chiranjeevi lost the election his home town constituency in 2009, even though a particular community was a force,” he said. According to Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, actors and celebrities have a limited role in politics. “AP has a history of not electing a film star twice. Let Pawan Kalyan prove his influence by contesting elections,’’ he said.
He ruled out the possibility of joining forces with Pawan Kalyan as he is still in association with communal party.
