Andhra Pradesh YSR Congress Party Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy will be visiting Garagaparru village in West Godavari district on Friday to meet the Dalits who were boycotted by the upper castes. Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), K Ramulu visited the site on Tuesday and confirmed that Dalits in the village were subjected to social embargo. Section 144 CrPC prohibitory orders are in force since Sunday in the village.
It may be noted that the Garagaparru Dalits wanted to install a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, and sought permission which was denied. However, they proceeded with the installation in April, only to be demolished later. The lower castes staged protests and allegedly that the officials were acting at the behest of the upper “caste” Hindus. Purportedly, the district Collector and Joint Collector took the sides of the upper caste and recorded cases against Dalits.
According to words, around 800 families of mala community are being denied work. The police putatively did not file a case when Dalits lodged a complaint 50 days ago.
Ramulu instructed the officials to conduct inquiry into social ostracising that turned sensational and ordered to restore normalcy so that Dalits can get back their work. CPI and the Dalit associations are demanding the government to take action immediately. The State government is endorsing a Dalit for the post of President, on the contrary, it is allowing tyrannical acts on SC community.
