Hyderabad: If all things go well, there is an announcement likely on special status for Andhra Pradesh from the Centre in a week’s time. Following the gumption speech made by Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan in Tirupati, the Centre is learnt to have become cautious over special status issue.
The BJP leadership in the Centre is now playing its cards close to chest whether it should announce its stand on the special status issue or wait till another development takes place as Pawan Kalyan planned a public meeting in Kakinada on September 9.
Central Ministers Arun Jaitley, M. Venkaiah Naidu, BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday met and discussed the issue. After the completion of meeting of Union Ministers on Tuesday, Venkaiah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the special status issue with the latter.
It is also learnt that Venkaiah suggested Modi of taking a decision on the implementation of the promises made by the BJP to the residual State of Andhra Pradesh.
Venkaiah Naidu flew to Hyderabad from New Delhi to hold talks with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
