The Telangana government has issued orders transferring the management of the Dharani portal from private company Terracess to the National Informatics Centre (NIC), a central government organization. This significant move comes with a three-year operational agreement and the possibility of a two-year extension based on performance.
Revenue officials have revealed that this transfer to NIC will result in significant cost savings, reducing operational expenses by nearly one crore rupees. Principal Secretary of Revenue Naveen Mittal has clarified that Terracess staff will continue supporting NIC until November 30 to ensure a smooth technical transition of the portal’s operations.
The Revanth Reddy government has indicated that if NIC’s performance meets expectations, the management contract could be extended for an additional two years. This transfer marks a shift from private to public sector management of this crucial land records system.
The government is currently working on replacing the Dharani portal with a new system called “Bhu Mata.” The transition process from the private entity to NIC has already been completed, with only the name change pending. Most pending applications on the Dharani portal have been resolved through special drives, with only matters related to new legislation remaining under process.
The Dharani portal which serves as Telangana’s comprehensive land records management system and the government’s decision to transfer its operations to NIC represents a significant shift in the state’s approach to managing land records and related services. The move aligns with efforts to streamline land administration and improve service delivery to citizens.
