Senior Congress leader and Former Union Minister Digvijaya Singh was removed as Congress party’s in-charge in Telangana. AICC in its statement said that they handed over full responsibility to R C Kuntia in charge of Congress affairs.
Diggy reportedly decided to launch ‘padayatra’ in his home state, Madhya Pradesh towards the end of September. Consequently, Telangana is set to have new Congress in-charge to lead the party in 2019 elections.
The AICC General Secretary has been the in charge of the Telugu speaking states since 2014 following the Andhra Pradesh reorganization. TPCC did not fare well in the elections in either of the states. Also, his comments did more damage to the opposition party of Telangana than bringing benefits.
The former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, wants to try his luck in the 2018 elections in the state. So, he will be taking up a Padyatra hoping to become Chief Minister for the third time in MP.
This move will likely be an advantage as it may change equations for TPCC which is the second strongest party after the ruling TRS. However, they need a strong leadership to challenge a person of KCR’s stature in 2019 elections.
