With the success rate of films coming badly down, several buyers have been suffering hefty losses in Telugu cinema. The recent digital revolution turned out to be a huge threat for the buyers as digital giants like Amazon have been paying hefty prices to acquire the digital rights and release the film online in less than a month of its theatrical release. However the makers of big budget films have been able to recover one third of their investments through the digital rights alone. The theatrical rights of films like Padi Padi Leche Manasu and Anthariksham 9000 kmph have been sold for huge prices across all the territories of AP and Telangana.
The makers of both these films sold the digital rights to Amazon and inked a deal to release the film online after 28 days of the theatrical release. This did not go well with the buyers and couple of buyers even backed out of these projects. With buyers struggling hard to recover their investments, the digital deals turned out to be a new threat for Telugu films. Films like Rangasthalam, Bharat ane Nenu and Mahanati have been released online when the films have been raking decent figures across theatres.
Several distributors are in plans to approach the Film Chamber to take stringent action on such makers and impose deadlines for the digital release of Telugu films.
