The drama staged by Congress MLA from Gadwal DK Aruna, who threatened to resign to her MLA position demanding new district as Gadwal as headquarters, has come to an end in a dramatic manner. When the news channels flashed the breaking news that DK Aruna would resign to her MLA post fighting for Gadwal district, there was also a hint that “conditions apply” would apply to her claim.
Later it was proved that the format of the letter drafted in such a way that there seemed no logic in her claim to resign. And it is just a part of the game. Subsequently, the TRS leaders termed Aruna’s move as a “staged drama”.
Ever since the Telangana government dropped the idea of making Gadwal a new district, she staged demonstrations in Hyderabad and in the town of Gadwal. Protesting the government’s move tooth and nail, she demanded that Jogulamba district should be carved out, in the name of local deity, Gadwal as it headquarters. After her protest fizzled out, she used her final weapon – resignation to her MLA post.
Knowing or unknowingly, she received severe criticism from the ruling TRS for her move to announce resignation. Shooting a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, instead Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Madhusudhana Chary, she derived no political mileage from all these.
“If my MLA position is a hindrance to new district of Gadwal, please approve my resignation,” she mentioned in her letter. But how this could be brought to a logical end is the question? How a letter of this could be sent to the Telangana Legislative Speaker?
Even during the Telangana agitation, MLAs had played the power tactics by tending their resignations, but they succeeded after resigning to their posts and faced by-election. From this move, the TRS had gained confidence and praise from the people.
Had Aruna made similar move by resigning to her MLA post, she would have bagged the support of Gadwal people. Since new districts have almost been finalised, the Telangana government has no time to give a thought to the ongoing protests for the new districts. It is determined to create a history by carving out 27 districts. However, the KCR government has no time to explain as to on what scientific basis the districts are being carved out. DK Aruna’s protest for Gadwal district will have no effect on the government.
