Tamil Nadu former Chief Secretary C S Ramamohan Rao today accused that Income Tax officials raids at his residence and also at the Chief Secretary’s office were nothing but `constitutional assault’. Suspecting that these were politically motivated, he said “I may be a big hurdle to many forces…they may thought I am a hard-core person….does what Jaya madam says..”
For the first time after raids opening his mouth, he alleged that they had knocked his house at early hours on December 21 without any valid search warrant. He said the search warrant was in the name of his son Vivek, who is not residing with him at all and residing separately since his return from US eight years ago, he asked how they can raid the house of a Chief Secretary and his office on the basis of the warrant of another person.
Expressing fear of death threat on his life, he wandered if Jayalalithaa is survived today could have dared to do so?” He also strongly admonished the `silence’ maintained by Chief Minister and the government over these raids when CRPF officials entering a Chief Secretary’s office without any permission.
Stating that several secret documents related to the state government being kept at Chief Secretary’s office, he asked whether Chief Minister, Home Secretary or Public Works Secretary given them permission to enter the same.
Also disputing the contentions that crores of rupees worth cash and properties were found in his house, he said that as per the panchanama provided by the IT officials, they seized only Rs 1.12 lakh cash, 40 sovereign of gold and 25 kgs of silver and bills of a club membership at his office.
He also alleged that he was kept under house arrest for 26 hours and entered his son’s house at a gun point terrorising inmates at a time his daughter was in law was in advance stage of pregnancy.
If the fate of a Chief Secretary is like this, he expressed fears on the fate of AIADMK cadre and other officials of the state government. He thanked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Benerjee for condemning IT raids.
