CM Jaganmohan Reddy accepted the reality when he said that his government would not be able to put pressure on the Modi government as it got huge majority on its own. But, Jagan could not meekly go back on his commitment to Special Status. So, he said that he would continue to raise and plead for the Status whenever he would meet PM. He stood by his word and asked PM for it despite AP BJP leaders’ clarifications that Status is a closed chapter. Now, CM almost accepted another reality.
For the first time, Jagan did not raise Special Status promise with PM and also Home Minister Amit Shah. This is not surprising considering the negative atmosphere prevailing against the YCP all over. Jagan and his party MPs would have thought it better to drop Status as the Centre just removed Special Status of even Kashmir amid protests from Opposition, Pakistan and China. Politically incorrect to raise such a subject. This would be apparently the end of any hope of getting Status for Andhra any more.
Analysts say that Jagan was solely concerned to bridge the growing gap with the Centre over Polavaram and PPAs. YCP MPs talked about bifurcation promises raises by Jagan before PM. But this is doubtful because KCR already told Jagan to solve reorganization issues between the two states without giving any chance to Centre to interfere.
