Warangal: In a tragic incident, five engineering students were drowned in Dharmasagar reservoir in Warangal on Saturday morning. The deceased were identified as Sravya Reddy, Vinutna, Sivasai Krishna, Srinidhi and Pratyusha all were studying second year B.Tech Computer Science Engineering (CSE) in Vagdevi Engineering college located in the city outskirts.
Efforts are being made to trace the body of of Sivasai Krishna. According to the police, the students ventured into the reservoir to spend some fun time following inclement weather in the city.
Following copious rainfall from the past one week, the reservoir is brimming to its capacity. The students might have ventured into the water body without gauging the water-level and subsequently got drowned, said the police.
It may be recalled that a student of NIT Warangal was drowned in Dhramasagar reservoir earlier this year in January. According to the locals, about 20 people have so far drowned in the reservoir.
The locals expressed anger over the officials for not taking measures in stopping such incidents at the reservoir. Dharmasagar reservoir, which meet the needs of Warangal tri-cities, has seen no development. Though there is a sign board erected near the reservoir, students continue to ignore the warning.
