Having lots of money is not enough to be a good producer. A good producer needs to have a solid understanding about how the system works and how people react to publicity. A good producer must understand the basics of marketing and filmmaking.
In the olden days, producers were like that. Even until the late 90’s, stalwarts like Dr. Ramanaidu were active and Producers were a very respected lot. Today, the situation has changed. Real Estate money has led to an influx of illiterate and shady characters into the film industry.
One such producer who has absolutely no idea about film production released a film today. The movie did not get good openings and word of mouth has also been very poor from the general public. In such a situation, what does a normal person do? He would try to increase publicity and try to salvage the product.
But this gentleman did the opposite. His team began calling media houses to ask for returns on advertisement budgets allocated to them! When the poor openings were pointed out to him, they reportedly said that publicity is a waste of money!
What can we say, except to feel sad for such producers.
