Former actress Namitha joined politics officially,by becoming a member of the AIADMK in the presence of party supremo Jayalalitha. The actress has taken the membership of the party and is going to campaign actively in the state on behalf of the party. AIADMK party supremo Jayalalitha herself is a former actress. In fact, both the DMK and the AIADMK have a lot of politicians in the ranks.

Namitha enjoys good popularity in Tamil Nadu and she is expected to be an asset for Jayalalitha. Her popularity was at its peak in the mid 2000’s, when her fans even built a temple for her. She made her debut with Sreenu Vaitla’s ‘Sontham’ in Telugu.

In Tamil, she is now relegated to second heroine roles and supporting characters.
