Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Thursday alleged that friends of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao are involved in drug racket busted in Hyderabad.
Without naming Rama Rao, the Congress General Secretary, who is in charge of the party affairs in Telangana, tweeted that influential friends of TRS heir apparent were involved.
“Huge drug scam in Telangana. Influential friends of TRS heir apparent involved. Let’s see if they would be saved or prosecuted. Let’s see,” Singh tweeted.
Rama Rao, a cabinet Minister and son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, hit back at the Congress leader.
“You’ve completely lost it sir. Time to retire gracefully and do something worth your age. Glad that you’ve finally learnt to spell ‘Telangana’,” tweeted Rama Rao.
A drug racket was busted in Hyderabad earlier in July. The Prohibition and Excise Department of Telangana arrested 13 drug peddlers, who were selling drugs to students of several schools and colleges in the city.
The authorities are currently probing the alleged involvement of some personalities of Telugu film industry in the drug racket.
In May, Digvijaya Singh had made an allegation that the Telangana Police set up a bogus Islamic State site to trap Muslim youth.
Terming his allegation “irresponsible”, Rama Rao had asked him to withdraw the claim or face legal action.
The Congress leader, however, said he stood by his statement.
