The Central Crime Branch of Benguluru police arrested mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy on Sunday in connection with the Rs. 18-crore Ambidant scam. The crime branch officials have questioned Gali for several hours before making the arrest.
Gali evaded arrest for three days but finally he surrendered before the Benguluru police following a massive man-hunt launched by the police in Bellary, Benguluru and Hyderabad. Gali alone was arrested while his associates were released after questioning.
The arrest was made after Gali failed to answer their questions. In the scam, Gali is facing charges of taking Rs 18 crores from the Ambidant owners to get relief from the Enforcement Directorate raids. Ambidant faced accusations of having illegally collected over Rs 600 crore from gullible depositors in the chain-link marketing scheme.
Gali is charged with trying to divert the investigation into the Ambidant scam by offering Rs 1 crore to an investigating officer.
