Finally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has released a notification mentioning that the Gannavaram airport is going to have immigration section and soon international operations will be available for netizens. However, the Gazette notification yet to be issued. The immigration block will be set up in the international terminal and plans are being made to arrange checking counters and other services.
Recently, a team of Air India officials has already visited the Gannavaram airport and expressed their satisfaction with the facilities and developments took place after it acquired the international status.
They have submitted a detailed report about the international terminal and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh approved it and finally cleared the way for the notification. As per the reports, the airport will have 10 immigration counters, five each in arrival and departure blocks. The department is yet to allow the wireless network and internet cabling, and sufficient staff for international operations. The first international service will be from Vijayawada to Dubai and Sharjah by Air India Express.
