Goa Elections
A loss of face for Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa where Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar lost the Mandrem assembly seat by a margin of nearly votes to Congress rival Dayanand Sopte. At 12.00pm Congress maintains the lead with 12 seats while BJP won 8 seats and others have won 4 seats.
It is evident that the people were unhappy with the CM who was Minister of Health before who succeeding Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. Moreover Parrikar was the star campaigner for the assembly elections even though Parsekar was the chief minister, Parsekar won thrice from his constituency of Mandrem in north Goa in the past. Dayanand Sopte dedicated the victory to his party workers as Parsekar exited the counting Centre in Panaji silently.
Deputy Chief Minister of Goa Francis D’Souza of BJP won over rival Vinod Phadke of the MGP in Mapusa constituency. Congress leader and former Goa CM and Pratap singh Rane won from Poriem constituency.
BJP has put up 36 aspirants, Congress 37 and AAP is contesting on 39 seats and each of them backing independents in a few seats.
